Theragun & percussion therapy FAQ

Percussion therapy devices like the Theragun deliver rapid pulses to muscle tissue to ease tightness and aid recovery. Here's balanced, practical advice from a qualified sports therapist.

Does percussion therapy actually work?

It can help ease muscle tightness, improve short-term range of motion and aid recovery after exercise. It's a useful tool - but it works best alongside proper assessment and treatment, not instead of it.

Is it safe to use at home?

For healthy muscle tissue, used sensibly, yes. Keep it on the muscle belly, use moderate pressure and limit each area to a minute or two.

When should I NOT use it?

Avoid bony areas, joints, the spine, fresh injuries, bruises, inflammation, or any area with sharp or nerve-type pain. If in doubt, get assessed first.

Can it replace hands-on treatment?

No. A device can't assess you, find the root cause or apply the range of techniques a therapist can. Think of it as a helpful supplement between sessions.

How long should I use it for?

Short and gentle is best - roughly 1-2 minutes per muscle group. More isn't better and can leave you sore.

Persistent pain needs more than a gadget

If something isn't shifting, book a proper assessment and let's find out why.
